CAAS Conference 2015: Race and Social Justice

Join us for the 3rd Annual CAAS Conference at The University of Texas Arlington, focusing on race, social justice, and critical issues affecting the Black community. This two-day event, taking place on February 20th and 21st, will feature powerful keynote speakers, interactive workshops, and engaging panels.

Student Day – Friday, February 20th

  • Activism Workshop (Invitation Only)
    Led by Taurean Brown, activist, writer, and speaker.
  • Opening Keynote Speaker – 6:00 PM (Rosebud Theatre)
    David Banner, rapper, actor, and activist, delivers his talk “Hip-Hop as a Tool for Social Activism.”
  • Opening Reception & Open Mic Night – 7:30 PM (Bluebonnet Ballroom)
    Hosted by David Banner, offering an opportunity for voices to be heard and shared.

Community Day – Saturday, February 21st

  • Community Research Panel – 10:00 AM (Rosebud Theatre)
    Featuring experts from across Texas:
    • Dr. Keisha Bentley-Edwards (University of Texas at Austin)
    • Dr. Keri Day (Texas Christian University)
    • Dr. Martell Teasley (University of Texas at San Antonio)
  • Film Screening & Panel Discussion – 12:00 PM (Bluebonnet Ballroom)
    Screening of “Evolution of a Criminal”, followed by a discussion with director Darius Clark Monroe.
  • Closing Keynote Speaker – 2:00 PM (Rosebud Theatre)
    Rev. Bernice King presents “A Concerned Generation: Social Justice Strategies to Charge the Revolution.”
