Requirements for a Minor in African American Studies
Students must complete six classes (18 credit hours) in order to earn a degree in African American Studies.
Only two of these courses are required:
- Introduction to African American Studies, and
- One of the following courses
- African American History,
- Contemporary Black Experience,
- Racial and Ethnic Groups in the United States
- Human Behavior and Diverse Populations

The remaining 12 hours include a diverse set of elective courses across the following departments.
- Center for African American Studies
- Anthropology
- Criminology/Criminal Justice
- Economics
- English
- Linguistics
- Management
- Music
- Political Science
- Social Work
- Sociology
